International Earth Day
March 20, 2013 is "International Earth Day". This day was initiated to make earth inhabitants aware of their responsibility to care for the planet. This includes environmental and natural resources. International Earth Day was founded by John McConnell, of Davis City, Iowa. In September, 1969, he proposed the establishment of Earth Day to the San Francisco, California Board of Supervisors. In 1970, McConnell wrote an Earth Day Proclamation which was ultimately signed by UN Secretary General U Thant on March 21, 1971. This day is also called Sun-Earth Day.
So this March 20th, take a moment and look around you. You have to marvel at the greatness of this little blue jewel in the cosmos. It is everyone's responsibility to care for our planet and ensure the next generations have a planet of blue skies, clean water and air. What can you do to help- recycle, conserve and lower your carbon footprint.
After taking care of the planet, our next day to recognize is on March 22nd. Unfortunately, it falls this year on a Friday but at least it's the end of the work week. March 22 is "National Goof Off Day", but even with my in-depth research I could not find any data to suggest that this day is truly a "National" day. So have a day to do anything and everything.....except what you're supposed to do today.
Go out and play some golf. Spend extra time surfing the net or spend the day window shopping with your Best friend. My favorite would be to just sit down and read a book. This day is set aside for you to do anything you enjoy doing.
I wrap up this entry with a great day March 26th. is " Make Your Own Holiday Day". Wow, a day that allows you to make a special day for anything you want. The objective of day, is to set aside one day for any topic or event that has otherwise escaped recognition. No I did not create this day, but I am glad it's here. Now you may inquired as to how to create a holiday or special day. It's not easy, and it's even more difficult to create a truely national day.
So "Make Your Own Holiday Day" , is your day to skip all of the red tape, and create a special day of any kind. Simply declare your special day on Make Your Own Holiday Day! From my research this day appears to have been created by the Wellness Permission League. However, I have not yet found their website, or more information. It appears they promote activities to inspire mental and physical wellness. Just what we all need in today's busy lifestyles.

2012 a Year of Loss
I can honestly say I am happy that this year is finally
coming to an end. It has been a year filled with great loss for my Florida
Family. We lost so many great family
members this year, and it was difficult to be so far away during their time of
need. I know they understand we were there in spirit and our prayers were with
them throughout.
Louis Lozito, Uncle Louie to my dogs. Louis was the kindest, sweetest man that I
have ever met. He was big softie when it
came to animals. He would watch over my two or three whenever I had to be gone
during the day. It was also common to see the wild ducks following him around
because they knew he would sneak them treats as well. Connie Lozito, the Grand
Mother of our group, always ensuring everyone was okay and doing what they
needed to do to stay safe and healthy. Connie
would show up with home-made soup if she saw your car in the drive way for two
days. Connie and Louis lived across the street and I never had to worry about
my house when I was away for Connie was always on watch in our little corner of
the neighborhood. The best times where
on Friday afternoon when all would gather on Connie’s Corner; catch up on
everyone’s week, plans for weekend, and simply enjoy each other.
John Persico, a man’s man, good friend and who had a heart
bigger than the East Coast. If you ever needed something John was there to
assist. John was always full of life and could always make you laugh; yeah I
will admit it even for a Yankee he was okay.
I mean we supposedly share Connie’s front yard one night or so our Florida
Family would claim. …
Being here in Tennessee has it draw backs as far as we are
no longer next door and able to participate in their everyday life. Our Florida family will always be an
important part of our lives. They are the family we chose and not our blood
family but there is no difference in our hearts.
So I wanted to pay tribute to those of our Florida family
that have left us this year.

I know Paul and I will always have a special place in our
hearts and in our home for these three wonderful dear Florida family members.
They may no longer be participating in our gathering, or our cruises but we
know they are always going to be part of our lives.
So as we had a wonderful Christmas here in Tennessee. Our
family was together and remembering those that are not with us. We had the Evelyn tree, the Elizabeth angel
lit and the memories from the Christmas past.
Each holiday is more special as we get to spend it with Dad and Sister
but our Florida family will always be in our hearts and thoughts.

National Bubba Day
Yes,
June 2, 2012 is National Bubba Day.
This day honors anyone named or called Bubba. To qualify to be honored today,
your name can be formally, or informally "Bubba". You can even take
on the name "Bubba" for just the day. That way everyone can celebrate
this day. There's a lot of ways to celebrate National Bubba Day. Acting like a "Bubba" is your starting point. Cards, parties and other celebrations are definitely in order. Gift giving is optional. My co-workers know if an email comes from Bubba or Billy Bob, I am not a happy person and mean business but that is another story. I have been Bubba to my sister for years and love every time she calls me Bubba..
On Friday, June 4th it is Hug Your Cat Day. Go ahead and give your cat a big, furry hug.
Cat lovers can really get into this day. If you're a cat lover, you can really appreciate the warm, cozy feeling you get when you curl up on a couch or chair, and hug your cat. The only problem is, your cat will most likely only allow a brief hug before sauntering away. If your cat is a true hugger, count your blessings.
Dog lovers...sorry, giving hugs to our kids will not suffice. If you are going to be "into" this day, you simply must hug a cat...your cat. Don't have a cat, don't fret, June is "Adopt a Cat Month".
I close this entry with June 5, World Environment Day. The day focuses attention on important environmental issues. According to the United Nations, "World Environment Day is commemorated each year on June 5th. It is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and action." World Environment Day was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972.
So remember to plant a tree, clean up some trash you see and let’s make the world a better place. Till next time LB

What Attack on Christmas?
I keep hearing that Christmas is under attack. Congress has even touched on the matter as if that is the most important issue they have to deal with at this time. But I digress.. I am having a hard time understanding just what is attacking Christmas. Is it the fact that the retail stores start advertising and putting out their Christmas items before Halloween has past. Maybe its the Condo Association that is fighting a owner for putting out colored lights instead of only clear lights.
I just can not figure out what is attacking Christmas, as I sit in front of our beautiful Christmas tree, listening to Christmas music and all the Christmas cards from friends and family. Where is the attack, what is the attack, who is doing the attacking?
Can anyone tell me?
The only thing I can think of is the attack is from those spouting the issue that Christmas is under attack. I just don't understand why human beings can not just get along, this country was founded on freedom. Freedom of speech, Freedom of religion, Freedom to be who and what you are without prejudice. At least that was what I was taught in a small country school in the rural midwest.
I personally, think that those that are claiming there is an attack on Christmas are just trying to create a diversion so they gain more votes in the upcoming election. We as Americans are always under attack, from outside our borders and more dangerous within our borders. Ultra conservative, Ultra liberals, Ultra Religious, Ultra white, Ultra Black, Ultra, Ultra Ultra. Oh there I go digressing again..
Attack on Christmas, I don't think so. The attack is on the American people, who for the most part just want to enjoy the Holiday in Peace and Good will to all.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All.....

Holidays, Family and Extra Pounds
Since this will be the first Christmas Dinner in 20 years with my Father, I want to make everything special and start a new tradition for our family. I have been researching for a new dessert for the dinner. My first thought on each recipe was how much sugar was in the item, Dad watches his sugar intake. Paul, my sister Cindy and I can eat or I should say will eat anything.
Of course, then we will be the ones trying to work off those extra holiday pounds. My sister will walk extra miles on her treadmill. Paul and I will walk the dogs on extra long treks. I will dance as much as possible. The grand part is that we will be doing it as a family and that support will be what gets us through the holiday pound syndrome.
So what are you going to do to get through the Holiday, the family and those Holiday pounds?
Why should you think about it now, you ask. Well without a plan those holiday pounds will become New year pounds, then Spring pounds. So get that plan together now and then you won't be struggling to get that Beach body when Summer time arrives.
If that is not enough to get you motivated, then read the following article from Jim Salophokos.
Slimming Down Will Benefit Your Health--And Much More
by Jim Salophokos
Men and women typically attempt to shed weight simply because they wish to improve their health or have been told by their health care provider that it is quite crucial that they do so. We now know just how directly related many health problems are to a person's excessive weight. Everywhere you go you hear about the serious implications of heart disease and increased blood pressure levels. Even with all the information, a large number of folks don't feel that the health benefits are cause enough for them to shed weight. In the following paragraphs we're going to take a look at some of the other benefits that can be gained through following a fat reduction program.
The first place to check out and one that might be a huge motivating factor is the fact that shedding some extra fat could actually save you money. Obviously, you tend to eat less and get rid of many expensive bad snacks when you are on a diet. It is the case that over some time these cost savings can amount to a rather significant amount of money. As a matter of fact, you can count on more savings if you opt to grow some of your own healthy fruits and vegetables.
An additional beneficial effect of your losing weight may be a new belief in yourself, which will manifest in all areas of your life. This could reflect itself in a more optimistic outlook toward your job and the people in your life. The fact that you come to see results from the desired goals you set for yourself with regards to losing weight may help you to achieve targets in the areas of your life. It is obvious that if people start to compliment you on the changes you have made to your physical appearance, this begins to have an effect on your self image and this will show in how you relate with others.
As an overweight person, maybe you steer clear of a few activities. This can be a consequence of your lack of self-confidence or because you have not had the physical ability to do it. This can change as you begin to get in shape and will open doors to new ways to spend your spare time. For instance, if you have the strength to try out a new sports hobby, you will without a doubt find that it is a nice way to work out and interact with other people. If it is a team sport, this is a great way to connect with other people and strike up new relationships.
Therefore, while the improvements to your health after losing weight should be a sufficient reward, you can find many additional reasons to remain faithful to your weight reduction plan.

Holidays are in Full Swing
Decorations galore are not the only hints that the holidays
are upon us. Dinner parties, cocktail parties, cookie swaps, caroling and
shopping. Shopping and Shopping, did I mention Shopping. Whether
it be at the mall or in the comfort of your home in front of your computer.
There are so many choices for your gift giving pleasure.
This year the best gift that I will receive is spending the
holidays with my Dad and Sister. After 20 years of spending the holidays in
Florida with our Friends/family there, this year, I actually get to spend the
holidays with Dad and sister. Although, I will miss the special time we have
had with our Florida family/friends all
these years. This year just has a very
special feeling for me. The holiday weekend is planned with a great meal and quality
time with the both of them.
Another huge difference for Paul and I is that our complete
yard decorations are in storage in Florida, living in a Condo does not offer
any real yard space for the 20-25 inflatables that I would put out in my yard
and the neighbors yard each year. Paul
is going through Holiday decorating withdraw due to not being able to put up
his tree, ornaments and all the indoor decorations.
We have been in our Tennessee home for 30 days and have done
a great deal of work to make it home and energy efficient. New Flooring is the final improvement and so
the tree can not be brought out till the flooring is down. Not sure if this will be completed prior to
the holiday, so I may have to see if we brought the little ceramic and 2 foot
tree of our mothers to curb his holiday decorating withdrawal symptoms.
Next year, we will have our home decked out to the max for
the holiday. We wish all our Florida
Family/friends a wonderful holiday and will miss you all. Take Care. Happy
Holiday.. till next time LB
